This large, yet elegant silk moth is pretty common in North America. Its wingspan can reach 15cm and is known for its brightly colored eye markings on its bottom wings.

I have a particular fascination with this moth, ever since my husband and I found one while we were outside eating burritos. It was an especially windy day and we assisted this large moth while it was struggling against the wind.

This petite original painting is 6x7.5 inches. Painted on thick watercolor paper, it was created using gouache, watercolor, colored pencil, ink and graphite.
