This original painting is framed in an 11x14 inch glass and brass frame. It was created using watercolor, gouache, ink, colored pencil, and graphite.

This painting is of a Polyphemus moth’s full life cycle. Starting from the bottom right, circling left and up, and then finally ending up right going left is the moth’s eggs to caterpillar, to cocoon, to finally a full grown moth.

Here’s a few facts about the Polyphemus life cycle. The caterpillars hatch from their eggs after ten days, then for five to six weeks they grow to large caterpillars. From there, they make their silk cocoon, wrapping themselves in leaves on a tree branch. They reside in their cocoon as a pupa for two weeks, then emerge as a fully grown moth. The moth will live for a full week, it’s sole purpose is to reproduce.
