Pachydiplax- blue dasher

$105.00

This original painting is framed in a 4x4 inch brass and glass frame. It was created using watercolor, gouache, ink, colored pencil, and graphite.

This painting is of a blue dasher dragonfly, freshly emerged from its nymph exoskeleton. Blue dasher dragonfly eggs hatch underwater, where they go through numerous molting phases. They can stay in their nymph form up to four years. At their final nymph phase, they emerge from the water and complete their metamorphosis by breaking out of their last nymph exoskeleton into full adult form. Dragonflies are one of the most accurate insect predators, catching 95% of what they hunt.
