This original painting is framed in a 4.1x4.7 inch brass and glass frame. It was created using watercolor, gouache, ink, colored pencil, and graphite.

Nine spotted lady beetles take 3-10 days to hatch depending on the temperature. They have three stages (called instars) of their larvae period which lasts 4-5 days. Then they enter a prepupal stage for about a week, getting ready for their metamorphosis. They have a pupal stage, similar to a butterfly which only lasts four days. Once they emerge from their pupa, they are a light yellow without spots. Within 24 hours they turn their dark red and develop spots. Lady beetles can live up to one year as adults.
